In response to the November 2016 Kaikoura Earthquake, Marlborough District Council prepared an insurance claim for damage to their assets. Cunningham Lindsey, the insurer, required an independent overview to better understand likely final liabilities and costs.
Hampton Jones undertook site visits with council staff to review what had been reported to date, identify the assets that were part of the claim and identify the risk of additional elements being added in the future. Careful management of the sensitive nature of some of
the information was required but the overriding ethical and safety responsibilities of a structural engineer was made clear to all parties.
The insurer gained an overview of the claim and their total liability and risk areas. The insured felt that they had been treated fairly and gained confidence in the accuracy of their claim.
