SERVICES Engineer to the Contract
The task
Hampton Jones acted as the Engineer to the Contract on this award-winning project for Kāinga Ora in Rangiora.
The project won an Excellence Award in the Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities Multi-Unit Residential Property category at the 2020 Property Council Property Industry Awards and is comprised of 28 1-bedroom apartments.
The building process was complex, as Waimakariri District Council required twelve separate building consents to be lodged for this project, due to the differing set-out and foundations of each apartment block. This in turn has required a considerable amount of additional time and fees to alter and modify the drawings for the Civil Engineers and Architects. Hampton Jones provided professional due diligence during the Stage Two Review Process to ensure the client received value for money and all the contract documentation was in place.
Our thinking
Hampton Jones worked closely with the client to gather and review Contractors’ insurances and Health and Safety documentation. We managed payment schedules, variations and provided contractually reasoned advice to our client throughout building development, relating to variations and extension of time. By keeping well organised with PCG meeting minutes, payment schedules, RFI’s and evaluating to variations, we have maintained clear communication with all project stakeholders.
The result
The development has provided residents with warm, safe dry homes and additional features such as shared community spaces, utility sheds and car parking. High and White Streets aligns brilliantly with Hampton Jones’ vision to create better buildings for better lives.
