The task
Hampton Jones has recently delivered 16 new homes for Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities in Onehunga, comprising 4 two-bedroom duplexes and 12 one-bedroom apartments.
The project was challenging as it was delivered during the Covid-19 pandemic, with delays to Building Consent Approval and a programme delay due to a power pole relocation.
Our thinking
To overcome these challenges the project team had to comply with strict Covid-19 H&S requirements. We also separated the Building Consent application into two stages; substructure and superstructure; so that that contractor could start on the foundation whilst waiting for the superstructure to get approval, and we suggested that the contractor make changes to their work sequence in order to mitigate the previous delays.
The result
Despite the challenges of 2020, this project was successfully delivered by the project team in December and has ultimately created better buildings in Onehunga for Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities and its residents.
