Whangaparoa Library

The task

Hampton Jones has recently completed the refurbishment and renewal of the Whangaparaoa Library, located north of Auckland on the beautiful Whangaparaoa peninsula. The objective of the $500k interior upgrade, led by architect and designer Marsha Valenta, was to create a warm and inviting space, leading all visitors into the heart of the library.

Our thinking

The project involved relocating the reception area and creating a new front desk design alongside a service pod. A reading nook, hopscotch carpet and a feature stair have also been designed for younger visitors to the library. Hampton Jones also provided space planning services with colour schemes, soft furniture, the replacement of all existing lighting with LEDs and the installation of shade sails in the external courtyard.

The result

The library feels fresh and revitalised, and ready to deal with the next generation of readers! Librarian Raymond Burnett says “I have found that with the upgrade, customers ask a lot more questions and feel a lot more comfortable. People are getting a lot of use out of the furniture and the kids love playing with it, especially the new puzzle seats.”
