The task
The Hampton Jones Project Management team have recently completed the $14 million redevelopment of Northland College in Kaikohe.
The old Northland College buildings were in an extremely dilapidated condition and the classrooms were described as “the worst in the country”. Following national press coverage over its condition; emergency repairs were made while plans were developed for a total rebuild.
This extensive new build project has replaced almost all the existing school buildings with a new complex, comprised of 21 inter-connected spaces, adjacent to the existing site. The new complex has created a flexible learning environment for the school and includes a gym, a whare which can double as a hall or be split into learning spaces, a dance studio, labs, art and IT areas and a kitchen.
Our thinking
The Hampton Jones team provided input into the business case for the redevelopment, project management and delivery of the new build complex and stakeholder engagement. Project stakeholders included the Ministry of Education, Northland College staff, Board of Trustees and students, Ngapuhi and the local community.
The result
The redevelopment is the largest project undertaken in the community in more than 10 years and has been described as “more than just a new building – it’s a whole new start for the students and for Kaikohe.” Hampton Jones is proud of our involvement with this outstanding project, and can truly say that we have helped to create a better building, not only our clients, but for the whole community.
