Welcoming Hawkes Bay-based Project Manager Lynda Jermyn to the team

Hampton Jones is pleased to welcome Lynda Jermyn to the team. Lynda is a Project Manager based in the Hawkes Bay who will be working closely with Associate Director Craig Harvett and his team of experienced Project Managers who are currently undertaking multiple projects in the Hawkes Bay region.

Our Marketing Manager, Margaret Browne recently spoke with Lynda to get to know her, and asked her a few questions:

What are you looking forward to about joining the Hampton Jones team?

After looking at Hampton Jones website I knew they would be a great company to work for.  Hampton Jones demonstrated to me that they were a progressive company, that embraces change, who have grown over the last 15 years.  The Facebook page shows they care about their employees; they are not just a number, which really appealed to me after working for a very large corporate company.  The diversity of services Hampton Jones provides is also appealing as it could offer future opportunities.

What do you hope to achieve?

The goal I had set myself for 2021 was to re-enter the workforce part-time, preferably in a job that I could utilise my skills and experience working alongside people that I enjoy being around, while still spending time with my son and supporting my husband.  Hampton Jones has now provided me this opportunity to achieve my goal.

You’re currently studying.  What course are you doing?

I am currently studying New Zealand Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety Management (Level 6) via distance learning with Southern Institute of Technology (SIT).  I have completed four papers and am halfway through.

What is your experience in the construction industry?

My experience is civil construction, in utility services.  I also have exposure to roading construction through Downer.  As for building construction, we have done a fair bit of DYI at our home!  My husband and I have worked with builders, plumbers, and electricians to enhance our home further.

What were you doing prior to taking on this role?

My last job was with Downer NZ Limited as a Build Planner.  I was there for seven years helping to build the Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) network for Chorus.  The UFB project wrapped up in November 2019, so I decided to take the summer off and then decide what to do.  Then COVID-19 hit.  It was just after Lockdown that I decided I would embark on my first ever study, and chose Health & Safety as it interested me, and would be a great addition to my current skill set and knowledge.

Have you worked in the field on Project Management previously? 

At Downer, I supported and worked closely with the Project Manager.  My core role was to ensure that everything was in place and ready for the Supervisors and crew to start their next build zone.  Over-time my responsibilities branched out into other areas, such as ensuring key client milestones were hit for the national build.

How long have you lived in the Hawkes Bay?

I was born in Napier and grew up here.  I headed off overseas in my early 20’s, where I spent my time in Sydney and London, gaining both Australian and United Kingdom citizenships while there.  I returned back to Napier in my mid-30’s, then met my husband and later had our son. 

What’s your favourite social media platform? 

Facebook is the platform I am on the most, and use to keep in touch with family and friends along with organisations for services.

What’s the best place to eat in the Hawkes Bay? 

There are so many places that are great in Hawkes Bay, for the true foodie and wine connoisseur I would have to recommend the degustation menu with wine match at Pacifica Restaurant.

What’s your favourite building in New Zealand and why?

The Mission Estate would be one of my favourite NZ buildings.  Growing up, I would go past this building every day and would wonder what it was like.  When I finally went inside for the first time, I felt privileged to be in this very decadent and historic building.  I should add this as another place to eat, as the food is as great as the estate and its location.
