Hampton Jones is proud to welcome Rowan Robinson to the team as Associate Director and national Quantity Surveying Manager. Rowan joins us from Fletcher Construction where he was most recently engaged on the New Zealand International Convention Centre in Auckland.
Our Marketing Manager Margaret Browne recently sat down with Rowan to get to know him. Here’s what he had to say:
How many years have you been quantity surveying?
10 years, but have been working in the industry 12.
What do you do during a typical day?
I attend quite a few meetings with colleagues. I am doing my best to get around and meet everyone involved with HJ and current clients. I am also doing a lot of reading and trying to get up to speed on company policies, forecasts and business development plans.
What do you like most about what you do?
The people you work with and the relationships you form in the industry.
What are you looking forward to most about working for Hampton Jones?
To be able to bring some new ideas to the business coming from the main contractor background. Hopefully also to grow the QS division into a key consultancy in the market.
What’s your main objective for the Hampton Jones Quantity Surveying team?
Provide support to the current team and develop their skills. Upholding the high standards set by Hampton Jones by providing the best possible service.
What project would you consider your most significant career accomplishment to date?
The New Zealand International Convention Centre in Auckland.
What have you done professionally that is not an experience you’d want to repeat?
I was almost shocked to death drilling into a live cable. The rubber handle saved me.
Hampton Jones’ vision is to create better buildings. Why are better buildings important?
Buildings are imperative to society as a whole; it forms part of one’s culture and can be a landmark to be reckoned with for 100 years and more.
Is it better to be perfect and late, or good and on time?
Good and on time! You are never going to be perfect, and I have OCD about being on time.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
Anything outside or on the water. Fishing, golf, and spending time with the family.
