Briefed to project manage the demolition and reconstruction of parts of this cluster of First World War buildings, early meetings showed the project scope wouldn’t meet the needs of the Ministry of Education (MoE) or the school. Along with MOAI, we carried out a new masterplanning exercise.
We proposed a reverse brief to inform a business case for the masterplan, discovering that it was more cost effective to replace buildings than to continue to maintain and upgrade. We made recommendations for keeping the school operational throughout the works and involved the school and local community every step of the way.
We redefined the scope and direction of this MoE project to bring long-term value to the school and the local community in the form of an enduring modern learning environment.
