Q&A with Regional Director Tony Phillips
Tony Phillips is Hampton Jones’s Northern Regional Director and heads up our recently opened North Shore office.
Tony joined Hampton Jones in 2011 to establish our Quantity Surveying department and has been quantity surveying for 23 years; originally in the UK before moving to New Zealand.
Our Marketing Manager, Margaret Browne recently sat down with Tony to ask him a few questions:
Now that you’ve opened the new office, as Regional Director, what’s your main priority? My main priority right now is to create a professional environment that allows our people to fully express themselves and fulfil their respective career ambitions.
What’s the biggest challenge you face in achieving this? Ensuring that the team and the company keep pace with technology advancements, so that we continue to provide outstanding service and value to our clients is the hardest part of the job.
What do you like most about working for Hampton Jones? The culture that treats everyone equally and the fact that everyone has a voice.
What’s your favourite project that you’ve worked on? The insurance claims from the damage caused by Cyclone Winston to several resorts in Fiji. The destruction caused by the cyclone was devastating to this pacific island nation where many people lead very basic lives. Being able to contribute to the rebuild by providing timely repair and cost assessments gave the HJ team and myself an immense sense of pride and wellbeing.
The Hampton Jones vision is to champion better buildings, because better buildings make for better lives. How do Quantity Surveyors help to create better buildings?
“By creating best value for the building through initial and whole life costing expertise, which provides clients with options on what will be best for the building in the short and long term from an economic and environmental aspect.”
What’s your favourite social media platform? LinkedIn
What’s the best place to eat on the North Shore? Tok Tok Kitchen – Takapuna
What’s your favourite building in New Zealand? Art Gallery - Auckland
